"Painless, safe, and effective treatments"
Acupuncturist Masamichi Shibata’s use of shallow insertion needle techniques to stimulate the skin and subcutaneous tissues creates enough stimulation to achieve great results and release muscles much less painfully than the deep insertion techniques used by most acupuncturists in China and North America.
Compared with shallow insertions, deep needle insertions increase the risk of damaging muscle tissue and blood vessels and also increase the risk of infection. Deep needle insertions introduce risk with virtually the same benefits as shallow insertions.
Also, Mr. Shibata’s shiatsu pressure and meridian stretch for restricted meridians increases the effectiveness of his treatment.
Mr. Shibata’s acupuncture therapy based on meridian theory is good preventive medicine as well as good therapy. As therapy, it can directly address fatigue, injury, and surgical recovery. As preventive medicine, it can prevent fatigue, which then prevents injury, which then prevents surgical intervention. Mr. Shibata’s acupuncture therapy offers the essence of Oriental medicine, which is to “treat illness before it occurs” and it can increase one’s overall health and performance.
I highly recommend Mr. Shibata’s painless, safe, and effective treatments to all Canadians who have never tried acupuncture treatment before and to all who have tried other acupuncturists but weren’t satisfied.

"His changing the way I walked was most dramatic"
The reason I went to see Mr. Shibata was that he had worked wonders restoring my wife’s arm and shoulder to normal function.
My problem relates to a 50-year-old ski jumping accident that damaged my right knee – I’ve lost 30% function in this knee so this passes on to the problems in the hip, and if the hip isn’t right then the spine hooked on to it doesn’t work properly either – “the foot bone is connected to the head bone” – believe me it’s true.
On my first appointment, sensitive spots were located and received fine acupuncture needles. This occurred with my feeling nothing other than finger pressure.
The day after that first appointment I noticed right away that I was walking normally and not favoring my right knee. The discomfort in my back was gone and I really felt good.
There have been two more appointments resulting in more comfort and ease of function. His changing the way I walked was most dramatic and is staying with me.
Acupuncture is a completely different concept to us who are used to pharmaceutical pills for help. It has been inexistence a thousand years longer and certainly proves itself when properly practiced.

"Pain improved immediately and was able to resume running shortly after"
I would like to give my highest recommendations for Mr. Shibata and his treatments of acupuncture, shiatsu and moxibustion.
As an avid runner, I have been treated for various injuries suffered through training. Initially, I sought treatment for a chronic shin splint injury. Mr. Shibata was very gentle and his techniques were pain free. The pain improved immediately and was able to resume running shortly after. As a result, I was able to complete the Tokyo marathon with not only a personal best time but also qualify for the Boston marathon.
I continue to visit Mr. Shibata from time to time for maintenance care and am always impressed with the various treatments he uses to relieve the different areas of pain and soreness. His knowledge of the anatomy and healing methods along with his warm and gentle manner are the reasons I enjoy my appointments with Mr. Shibata.

"Energetic in his research and a very positive and open-minded person"
I am a veterinarian who has practiced acupuncture therapy on racehorses in Japan since 1976. Racehorses are treated with acupuncture more than any other animal. Because racehorses have a considerable mass of muscle, they are prone to neuromuscular disorders when run excessively at full speed. It is very hard for them to recover once their sympathetic nervous system is stimulated and they become very tense, sometimes chronically so. In these cases, acupuncture therapy (including acupuncture, bloodletting and moxibustion) offers very effective and efficient treatment without side effects. Every time I treat animals, I witness evidence of the direct effectiveness of acupuncture therapy since animals are immune to the placebo effect.
Mr. Shibata came back to Japan in 2001 to study acupuncture on animals and he visited several veterinarian clinics. One of them was my clinic and he observed my acupuncture technique performed on racehorses. This included acupuncture, bloodletting and moxibustion.
Mr. Shibata is energetic in his research and a very positive and open-minded person who is learning about acupuncture on animals so that he might apply ideas to his own practice. I have never met an acupuncturist like Mr. Shibata, who seriously studies and researches acupuncture therapy. A racehorse’s skin and muscles are very soft and delicate. I believe that acupuncture for animals has some things in common with acupunctures for humans. Therefore, I have confidence that Mr. Shibata’s acupuncture therapy is very gentle and very effective for his human patients.
I know that in this reference I have not written enough about Mr. Shibata but everything I have said is written honestly, from my heart.

"A conscientious and reliable acupuncturist"
It is my pleasure to recommend my friend and colleague, Mr. Masamichi (Daichan) Shibata, a well-educated acupuncturist, to anyone looking for an acupuncturist.
He holds great knowledge in Oriental Medicine and in anatomy and physiology because of his interest in sports medicine. His palpation skills are reliable and remarkable.
Since I have known Mr. Shibata, we have shared our skills to improve our expertise. Mr. Shibata is a conscientious and reliable acupuncturist. I believe he will easily gain your confidence when he becomes your acupuncturist or your patient’s acupuncturist.

"A lot of interaction between the therapist and the patient"
Dear Mr. Shibata,
The treatment that I received at your acupuncture clinic was my first experience with Japanese style acupuncture; however, I had been treated with Chinese style acupuncture for pain many times prior to this injury.
The difference between these two acupuncture styles was surprising. As you mentioned, Japanese acupuncture includes a lot of interaction between the therapist and the patient, which extends throughout the treatment. Indeed, there was an emphasis on touch examination and feedback to determine pain and needle placement.
On a more personal note, your concern and serene approach had a very calming effect. Also, I was particularly pleased that I did not need to continue anti-inflammatory and pain medication during the days of treatment.
With appreciation,

"Oriental medicine, with Mr. Shibata’s dedicated contribution, is offering great services to all human health"
Mr. Masamichi (Daichan) Shibata is a colleague and good friend of mine. Since he opened a clinic in 1994 in Vancouver, he has successfully treated many people with good results and is well received by Canadians.
When he was 18 years old, he became interested in treating illness and injuries with Oriental medicine. Since then he has been focusing on acupuncture and acupressure therapy. He brought these Oriental medicine therapies to Canada, continued to improve his own skills, and now offers high quality techniques to his patients. Also, he is educating western people with the wisdom of Oriental medicine.
Today, as many cultures and civilizations around the world start to unite, I believe that Oriental medicine, with Mr. Shibata’s dedicated contribution, is offering great services to all human health.

"Provided my patient referrals with effective relief"
Mr. Shibata’s knowledgeable hands and experience in the field of acupuncture have provided my patient referrals with effective relief. Those who see Mr. Shibata will be satisfied with his professional manner and feel comfortable with his therapeutic touch and skilled needling techniques.
In the field of neuro-musculoskeletal medicine, it is nice to know that skilled professionals can work together effectively with the common goal of helping patients obtain relief from their pain using conservative methods.
I have no hesitation in recommending patients and other health practitioners use the services of Mr. Masamichi Shibata.

"Highly recommend his practice to those in search of health and well-being through Oriental medicine"
I have known Masamichi Shibata (Daichan) for 14 years, since he arrived in Canada in 1988. During his five years in Toronto, we developed a trusting relationship both personally and professionally. I believe his success as a shiatsu-therapist and acupuncturist lies, not only in his years of experience and refined knowledge of Oriental medicine, but also in his honest and caring character. As a holistic medical practitioner myself, I have no hesitation referring my patients to Mr. Shibata and highly recommend his practice to those in search of health and well-being through Oriental medicine.

"These techniques, which he developed himself, are unique to his treatment and I think they explain why his patients love him, why patients are drawn to him and why his work is so effective."
I have known Masamichi (Daichan) Shibata since he came to Canada in 1988. I would describe him as a very kind person.
He received practical training at a famous Sports Clinic in Japan. Before he opened his own clinic in Vancouver, he worked at the Shiatsu Centre in Toronto where he shared his skills with many other therapists and increased his experience.
Becoming a father of two children has made him even kinder and has caused his gentle technique to become even more refined to correct patient imbalance and disharmony. His experienced and competent hands apply shiatsu pressure that makes patients incredibly relaxed during treatment. These techniques, which he developed himself, are unique to his treatment and I think they explain why his patients love him, why patients are drawn to him and why his work is so effective.
I would highly recommend that you experience the "Shibata-style", an effective treatment that makes you feel great during treatment both in body as well as mind.

"His approach was gentle, soft, and polite and everyone loved his technique and character"
Daichan and I were classmates at Toyoshinkyu College of Oriental Medicine. We also gained practical experience together by working at the Komori Sports Clinic in Tokyo. I remember him as a very sincere individual who studied and worked very hard. When I was coaching the Track and Field team at Toyo University, he would come out to events on weekends and treat my athletes. Already at that time, his approach was gentle, soft, and polite and everyone loved his technique and character.
I highly recommend Daichan's truthful and warm-hearted acupuncture and shiatsu treatments to all for good health.

"One of the best acupuncturists in Canada"
Mr. Shibata and I were both employed by the Shiatsu Centre in Toronto as acupuncture and shiatsu therapists. He started there in 1988 and I joined a year later, in 1989. I am proud to have him as my colleague in acupuncture because of his expertise and professional skill. He proved to be invaluable to both the Centre and to his patients.
It gives me pleasure to recommend Mr. Shibata's treatments and I am confident that he devotes himself to practicing as one of the best acupuncturists in Canada.

"Vast understanding of Oriental medicine, an impeccable technique, and a warm touch"
Masamichi Shibata is a therapist with great command of acupuncture and shiatsu. He has a vast understanding of Oriental medicine, an impeccable technique, and a warm touch. As an acupuncturist myself, I am always thankful when finding a therapist who treats patients with care and listens to them carefully. He is all knowledge and ears at every session, which is reflected in the positive effects of his amazing treatments.

"The way he integrates the relaxing and energizing qualities of shiatsu with his practice of acupuncture is fantastic"
I received shiatsu and acupuncture treatment from Mr. M. Daichan Shibata for chronic knee problems from a series of 3 sports injuries, stiff ankles from severe sprains, and bilateral hip pain which developed during my menopause. He treated me 5 times over 11/2 months and all of those problems resolved. I found both his treatment and diagnostic skills exceptional. The way he integrates the relaxing and energizing qualities of shiatsu with his practice of acupuncture is fantastic. I highly recommend his professional services.

"I was virtually free of pain for the first time in 5 years"
I began seeing Daichan in January of this year because of some serious discomfort I was experiencing as a result of a neck injury. About 2 days after my first treatment with him, I noticed that I was virtually free of pain for the first time in 5 years.
Daichan’s skill and knowledge is quite obvious from the first time that you meet him. What stands out most, however, is the humility and integrity which emanate from him. His presence is one that engenders both safety and trust. I recommend him as a shiatsu therapist, an acupuncturist, and most importantly as a trusted advisor.

"His intuition, combined with his refined palpation skills allows him to detect the subtle messages of the body"
Oriental medicine is the medicine of vital energy. When the flow of energy is blocked, weak or excessive then symptoms or illness occurs. The role of the therapist in Oriental Medicine is twofold. First, one must detect or sense the flow and nature of this energy. Secondly, one must help restore balance and function in the whole person by treating the person, not the disease.
Daichan is an outstanding therapist on both counts. His intuition, combined with his refined palpation skills allows him to detect the subtle messages of the body. He approaches his patients with a genuineness and humility that immerses each treatment in respect.
It is no surprise that Canadian patients were immediately drawn to his work upon his arrival in Canada in 1988. His gentleness and exceptional abilities overcame any language barrier that he may have faced.
In the five years that Daichan worked for me, I had the pleasure of receiving regular treatments from him. Not only did I experience his outstanding skills firsthand, but I also witnessed the refinement of his technique and abilities with each year that passed. It has been seven years since I last received a treatment from Daichan and I can only imagine the excellence he has reached by now. It is with the utmost confidence that I recommend Daichan to anyone considering Oriental medicine treatment.
